Documentary Educational Resources

More Documentary Resources
For historical documentary photographs, sounds, films and text, visit the Library of Congress’s American Memory Project.

For historical film images and sound files, free for educational purposes, visit the Internet Archive’s collection of films from Prelinger Archives.

For radio documentary, listen to WBEZ’s The American Life.

There are many other sources for audio documentary, including: soundportraits.org
transom.org, and hearingvoices.com

For historical films housed at the University of South Carolina, see the Moving Image Research Collections, Newsfilm Library. Rate schedule and access rules available here.  This is an amazing local resource with a helpful and informed staff.

Visiting filmmakers and scholars – Throughout the semester there are usually opportunities to view work by independent documentary filmmakers at the Nickelodeon Theater and other venues. Some filmmakers may be present with their films and it will be a great opportunity for students to interact with other makers. Opportunities and events should be posted to Blackboard.
